Conditions that must be satisfied on application and thereafter
Under the category of persons of independent means, the key criteria are that you have sufficient funds (you must be able to show liquid assets at your disposal of about €40,000 per adult and €10,000 per child below 18 years old. These assets you should show in the form of a statement of account from an Austrian or major international bank), permanent accommodation in Austria, and health insurance that provides full coverage in Austria.
A spouse and children under 18 years old can be included in an application. Due to a strictly applied quota system, the processing time for applications under this category can, however, be lengthy.
This proof must be provided through a recent bank account statement. We advise that the bank account is managed by an Austrian bank. For the application, an internationally recognized bank might be accepted as well.
This proof has to be provided every year.
The insurance policy must cover main applicant and dependants in respect of all risks according to Austrian law. The health insurance cover must be procured by an insurance company licensed in Austria.
The main applicant and his dependents (from 16 years onwards) need to prove German language skills on A1 level. A language test at an accredited institute must be taken within a maximum of 12 months before lodging the application with the authorities. In case an applicant holds a university degree the language proof is not required. In certain cases, even a high school diploma might waive this requirement.
A due diligence exercise will be undertaken on the main applicant and dependants.
This residence program is regulated by regional annual quotas. If no free quota is available the application will be denied. Therefore, we encourage our Clients to support the application process in such a way that the application documents can be lodged on the first working day of each year.
Conditions that must be satisfied on application and thereafter
The main applicant must invest in an own or co-owned business in Austria. This business must be beneficial to the Austrian economy. In a detailed business plan the business must be described. The possible minimum investment threshold is €50,000 - €100,000. Nevertheless, and depending on the industry and business case we advise to invest at least €200,000 - €500,000. In cases where it is aimed to invest less, the chances of an approval are reduced; nevertheless, it depends on the business case and strong cases might be successful even with lower investment amounts. Creation of jobs, apprentice jobs and investments in research and development is an advantage. In a point based system the qualifications of the applicant are being evaluated, whereby points are given for the level of education, professional experience, German and English language skills, young age (below 35).
The company must pay a regular salary which is high enough to cover for housing and other cost of living; this shall be at least €2,500 - €3,500.
